Hello all!

Yesterday marked two years since I left home to serve as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served in the Utah Salt Lake City South and West Missions under two wonderful mission presidents and with many excellent companions.

As a missionary I taught people about Jesus Christ and invited them to live His gospel. I got to see a lot of people overcome difficult trials and improve their lives. Though, these two years have made as profound an impact on me as on anyone I taught. God has blessed me a lot for the little service I did. I'm grateful for all the people and all the experiences that helped me grow.

I've now been released from full-time missionary service, but my mission isn't over. Those I taught continue to progress and so do I. There's much good yet to come. I'll keep y'all posted!

I'd like to thank everyone who supported me on my mission. Your faith and prayers contributed so much to my success. Keep being faithful. Your impact is larger than you know. You made my mission the best two years.

Week 102: Consistency!

Posted on January 23, 2017 at 8:25 PM

Hey y'all!

Great week. The work here is keeping consistent. We had 10 investigators at church! 2 of them different ones than last week. People are coming into the fold! The church is growing guys. Don't you doubt it!

Today was SUPERB! We played bubble soccer again and it was way fun! This zone is great. I've got a lot of friends here.

It was only 5 days ago you last heard from me, so there's nothing really new to say.  But the work is good. I'm having fun and seeing a lot of success. Thanks for the love and support guys! You're the best!

Week 101: Miracle week!

Posted on January 19, 2017 at 12:15 AM

Hey everyone! I'm short on time so this will be pretty brief. This week was fantastic! On Monday we taught for the first time a family that was referred to us by a ward member. This family has recently gone through a lot of trials, and a good member took the opportunity to invite them to learn more about the church. Since then, we've taught them a couple other times and have had wonderful, Spiritual experiences. They're wanting to improve their lives and their faith is making it happen.

The other thing we were excited about this week was church. It was a regular Sunday. No baby blessing. No missionary homecoming. No special announcement. But nearly 300 people came to sacrament meeting, 12 of them non-members! Almost everyone we're teaching came to church! That was such a miracle.

The work is picking up here rapidly. We've been receiving more referrals than ever and finding new people to teach regularly. And those we're teaching are making progress. None ready to get baptized at the moment, but we're closer than ever.

Remember that miracles happen, y'all! Keep up the faith and prayers!

Love y'all! Til next week.

Week 100: Well hello there!

Posted on January 15, 2017 at 7:40 PM

I hope all is well for you guys. I'm having a good time out here in Salt Lake. It's been absolutely frigid! We got into negative temperatures for the first time earlier this week. Brrrrrrrrr!

This week was a little slow, but the work is progressing nicely. The people we're teaching are doing well and we've made some appointments with people we've been working on for a while.

Elder Clements and I are doing well together. It's been really fun to be his companion! He's starting to do more and more of the talking in lessons, which is really nice to see. He's a hard worker.

So we're moving in a good direction here. We just got several new ward missionaries called in our ward and we're gonna put them to use. The Copper Mountain Ward is on fire!

Love you guys! Read some of God's word tonight. It's never a bad idea.

Week 99: Happy New Year!

Posted on January 8, 2017 at 5:20 PM

Happy New Year y'all!

So I'm working on My Plan, a little program for missionaries to do the last 6 weeks before they go home. This week I was supposed to think about where I want to be a year from today. So this week I've been thinking a lot about New Years' Resolutions and what I hope to accomplish in 2017. It's gonna be a big year. Just you wait.

My biggest goal for now is to finish my mission strong. There's still some people I need to reach, I'm sure of it. Please pray that we'll be lead to those people.

We had a surprise baptism this week! So this guy, Tim, was taught in Maryland by some missionaries and decided to be baptized. His girlfriend is a member and her parents live in our ward. They were coming here for the holidays, so they just decided to do the baptism here. So we had to figure out how to make that happen, but we got it all figured out right in time. It was a cool baptism.

We had interviews with President this week and he told us that the church is gonna change the missionary schedule a little bit soon, and asked us to go ahead and try it. The biggest thing is that there's no more nightly planning. Every night before we took 30 minutes to plan for the next day, but now we're supposed to just find down time throughout the day to take care of those things. It's been an interesting adjustment. But it's been cool. I like it.

This week was pretty productive. The work was slow the last few weeks with the holidays, but we've been getting more and more lessons. We have a guy in our ward, Victor, who's what some people call a "dry Mormon", in other words he acts like a member of the church and attends regularly, but has never been baptized. He called the Bishop this week to tell him he's decided to be baptized! So we've started to meet with him. He still has doubts about whether or not it's the right time, but he's willing to keep taking steps forward. We're super excited to tell the ward when we set a baptismal date. It will be a very happy day. Pray for Victor please y'all!

I appreciate your love and support! Thanks for praying for me and the people I'm teaching. Your prayers of faith matter and make a difference. I love you all! May God bless you as you make 2017 the best year of your lives.

Week 98: White Christmas!

Posted on January 1, 2017 at 3:50 PM

Hi there!

This week was good. We had a white Christmas, with 8 inches of snow! So Christmas  morning we spent shoveling snow before going to church. It was cancelled for most of the stakes except for ours. I'm glad I got to go! I'll never willingly miss an opportunity to take the sacrament. I need that weekly.

After church, we came home and got to video call the fam and open up our gifts. Thanks to everyone who got me something or wrote me a letter! We spent the day after that at home playing games with other missionaries.

So we had a really fun weekend. And today was p-day as well, so I feel like I haven't worked in I'm ready to get back to work. The time is short!

The work was super slow this week trying to contact and teach people because of holiday preparations, but that should be other with now. So we're gonna hit it hard out here! We want to have a baptism before I leave.

Elder Clements is doing good. For a greenie, his Spanish is pretty good. He's been fun to be around and is working hard to be a great missionary.

All is well here, y'all! I hope you have a good week. I'm grateful this Christmas that I have an example to follow in life. Jesus showed us the way, and I want to follow His perfect example. I hope you'll choose to follow Him too. It's worth it.

Have a good one. Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Week 97: Merry Christmas!

Posted on December 25, 2016 at 10:25 PM

Hi friends!

I've had a really great week! I'm serving in a great ward. I have an excellent companion. I've got the best house in the mission, living with the Turnbulls. And it's Christmas time!  I'm feeling grateful.

So my new companion is Elder Clements from Raleigh, North Carolina. He's an awesome guy. We get along super well and are having a great time together. He's brand new to the mission, so I'm helping him get to know SLC and how things work around here. He's learning Spanish, but is off to a great start. He's very humble and hard working and a good friend. This is gonna be a great transfer.

So on Saturday night there was a Christmas event for the Hispanics, at the Conference Center called Luz de las Naciones, or Light of the Nations. They had traditional Latin music and dances. It was awesome! Hispanics are great. The Conference Center was LOUD. People were standing and clapping and cheering, etc. It was a party.

So Kevin, the kid who got baptized last week, is doing great. He's gonna get the Priesthood next week! We're excited to see him progressing well! He's a great kid.

We're teaching some other people who are doing well but could still use some prayers. Keep in mind Augustina, Breanna, Cristal, and Paola. Thanks.

I love the people here. Being a missionary is amazing. I'm so blessed. And I'm very much looking forward to Christmas. I hope you all have a great week. And don't forget Jesus!

Merry Christmas, y'all! I love ya!

Week 96: Third time's the charm!

Posted on December 18, 2016 at 2:10 PM

Hello y'all! It's been a crazy long day, so I'll keep this letter short and sweet today.

So Elder Simpson is leaving the area and I'll stay here. I'm so grateful to stay. This area is AMAZING. I'll be training a new missionary...third time's the charm I guess.

On Saturday we had Kevin's baptism. It turned out great. He's a really great kid. Then in the evening we had our ward Christmas party. It was very fun. I MET SANTA!

The work here is going great. I know that Jesus Christ loves us. I hope you all know the same. Make him a part of the Christmas season. He will bless your life, I promise.

I love you All! Thank you for the support and love! You are wonderful!

Week 95: Hey y'all!

Posted on December 11, 2016 at 4:20 PM

Hey y'all! This was one of the most spiritual weeks in the mission for me.

First of all, Elder Rasband, of the Quorum of 12 Apostles, visited the mission, along with Elder Maynes of the Presidency of the Seventy, and Elder Borne, an area authority. First things first, they shook all of our hands. He told us there that the day before he had met with President Monson, and shook his hand too, so we were really a handshake away from the Prophet. Now that's pretty cool.

He told us that when he was a mission president in New York, after a while the mission wasn't having a lot of success, and the missionaries weren't very obedient. His wife suggested to him that rather than be more strict or constantly preach obedience, that they focus on Christ. He said that as they did, specifically encouraging missionaries to study about Christ, that things changed. Missionaries were obedient, and loved the Savior, and worked hard. They knew they came on their missions to serve Jesus Christ.

His main counsel to us was to come to know Christ. He said if you come to know Christ, you'll love Him and want to serve Him. So the secret to missionary work is to come to know Christ personally. And that's a lot more than just knowing about him. It was a great experience and we received excellent counsel.

And then last night we got to go downtown with our investigator, Kevin, and his family to the First Presidency Christmas Devotional. My favorite talk was from President Eyring. His message on peace was excellent. I'd recommend you listen if haven't already.

This next week, we'll have a baptism and our ward Christmas party. So we're very excited. Anyways y'all, have a good one! Remember Jesus Christ in this Christmas season. I love you all!

Week 94: Snow!

Posted on December 4, 2016 at 6:30 PM

This Thanksgiving week was great y'all! On Thursday morning we got up early to play football in the snow, which was really more ice at that point. It was amazing. I haven't played football in ages. Then we had breakfast with our zone. At 2 we ate dinner with this awesome family in our ward. It was one of the greatest thanksgiving dinners I've ever had. After that we hung out with other missionaries, playing games and whatnot through the evening.

Today was a great p-day! We went and played Topgolf (highly recommend it, btw) and ate at Mellow Mushroom (also highly recommend it). Then we bought ugly Christmas sweaters so we can make family Christmas cards with the elders we live with. It's gonna be the best thing ever. Stay tuned. You may get a copy. We have to make it still though.

Kevin is definitely getting baptized on the 10th and Elder Rasband is coming to the mission this Saturday. So there's gonna  be some fun stuff going on. This ward is doing great. I'm loving being here.

And I'm excited for Christmas time. Don't forget Jesus, y'all! He's amazing.

But now it's time to drive around in the snow! Wish me luck! God bless!
